Thinking about changing your clothes?
Did coming out later Influence your appearance or lifestyle ?
Coming out is definitely not easy, and for most of us, the members of the LGBT community, this is either good or bad. Coming out is good for you if your parents accept you for who you are because you feel more relieved and you don`t need to hide anymore. On the other hand, some parents may have a negative reaction when you come out to them as gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender. Either way, coming out may lately influence your appearance and lifestyle. At least a bit, lol.
As I said in one of my previous articles, I firstly came out as gay to my mom (I was never able to have a conversation with my dad, since he doesn`t even wanna hear about it). Nothing changed when I came out as gay to my mom (okay, maybe I started wearing more pink, hehe), but since I was always a bit more femme, I could act just the way I wanted (knowing that she was aware), and when it comes to my lifestyle, I could also make more gay and bisexual friends. This is how my lifestyle changed at first.
A couple of years later, when I told her that I`m actually a transgender, not a gay teenager, things were really getting better for me. I`m not saying now that I went to school as a girl because that wasn`t allowed (was able to wear unisex clothes, though), but my clothes got closer and closer to the feminine side, thing that didn`t happen before. Besides, when it comes to my appearance, I was able to change it (besides the fact that I was on hormone replacement therapy), so I let my hair grow, shaped my eyebrows, had my nails done and all the girl stuff.
Most of the guys and girls I`ve talked to told me that after they came out to their parents, their parents were more permissive so they were able to change their clothes a bit and also their lifestyle, if they wanted to.
For some, some other things changed besides clothing and lifestyle, for instance they got a tattoo or a piercing.
What about you? Was there any change in your appearance, after you came out to your friends and family?
