The World AIDS Day, December the 1st

November 26, 2010 |  by  |  Share

In less than a week, on December the 1st, people are reminded that the HIV virus hasn`t gone away, it is still there and it continues to infect people. In fact,  studies have shown that more than 7 000 people get infected with HIV daily. In addition to this, the World AIDS Day is also about raising money in order to improve the life quality of the HIV positive persons and those who are living with AIDS, as well as finding a cure for the virus.

More than 30 million people worldwide, both adults and children, are infected with the virus, and the World AIDS Day is a good opportunity to fight prejudice against HIV positive people, as well as improving the quality of their health.

The World AIDS day was started 23 years ago, and since then more and more people from the underdeveloped and semideveloped countries managed to get the antiretroviral treatment that they need in order to slow down the evolution of the HIV virus, thanks to the funds that have been raised ever since. It is a day of commemoration and remembrance. For the past three decades, more than 25 million people worldwide were killed by AIDS.

The symbol for solidarity with AIDS/HIV positive people is the well-known red ribbon. While the main theme of the World AIDS Day remains "Stop AIDS. Keep the Promise!", each year there is chosen a particular sub-theme for the World AIDS Day, and the sub-theme for December the 1st 2010 is "Universal Access and Human Rights". Hopefully, this way the social stigma that the positive people are confronted with will be gone, and everybody will have access to the medication needed.

Stop AIDS. Keep the promise!

You can also wear the red ribbon for a day or you can post on your blog an article in order to make people aware of The World AIDS Day, as well as of the dangers that they expose themselves at each time they are not wearing a condom. HIV is still there, and it`s always better to prevent than to cure, especially when there is no cure.

The whole EnDarkQ LGBT team cares about people living with AIDS or HIV. Show that you care about the HIV-positive people, too. Moreover, if you want to be informed, on this gay blog you can find articles about HIV prevention and treatment, as well as the basic information about the virus.
