My driver door is stuck

November 11, 2012 |  by

If you are like most drivers, you naturally assume that when you pull on the handle to your car door, the car door will open. However, many drivers will have the unfortunate experience of pulling on the door knob and realizing that the door is stuck.

When your driver’s door is stuck, you may believe that you are stranded at home or away from home until you find a way to open your door. However, you do have some options to consider that may result in a fast and easy solution to your issue.

Use Other Entry Points
It is not ideal, but you can consider entering your vehicle through other entry points. For example, if you are able to unlock your vehicle’s other doors, you can enter through the front passenger door or rear passenger doors. You may also be able to pop open the door to a hatchback, SUV or minivan and crawl into the car through the rear. You can then drive your vehicle to the service station for repairs.

If Your Fob Isn’t Working
You may have pushed the unlock button on your fob or car remote with the assumption that the doors would unlock. However, if the fob isn’t working, the door may appear to be stuck when it really is still locked. You can attempt to unlock the door manually using your key as an alternative. Then, you can replace the batteries in your fob or replace the fob itself as needed through your car manufacturer’s service department.

When the Door’s Lock is Broken
Some car door locks can become damaged. For example, if someone attempted to break into your car recently, the locking mechanism may have become jammed or the door itself may have become jammed. Your lock may have also become damaged if your key was sticking in the door and you attempted to turn the lock with excessive force. A Phoenix locksmith can be called to your location for assistance with this issue.

When the Key is Damaged
Some doors will appear to be jammed or stuck when the key is damaged. If you have put the key into the lock and the lock will not turn as usual, your key may be damaged. A locksmith may be called to your location to pop the door open for you. This professional may also assist in creating a new key for you to replace the damaged key.

It can be a hassle to contend with a driver’s door that is stuck, but you can see that you do have a few options available to you. If your key works with other doors and with the ignition, you can enter the car through another entry point and drive the car for service. However, if your issue appears to be with the key itself or you are not able to enter the car from another entry point, a Phoenix locksmith can be called to your location for fast service.

If you are stranded in a location until help arrives, be sure to look for a professional locksmith who can provide you with emergency service. This can help you to avoid waiting longer then necessary for help to arrive. By following these tips, you may soon be back on the road again.
